Aelis Fall Couture 2021

This season, Sofia Crociani gleaned inspiration from blades of grass in Tuscany, and so she injected green into her dramatic, sculptural collection.

An off-the-shoulder green silk dress came with a metallic, asymmetric embellishment and a 16-foot train. Flowers springing up in the hills parlayed into another dress, conceived with 33 feet of dusky pink taffeta

This collection also incorporates lighter fabrics, such as mousseline — chosen for its changeable color, and sustainably sourced Merino wool serving as an elongated “necklace” for one garment and cuffs for another.

Alongside her signature dresses, Crociani added some shorter and more constructed pieces, like shorts and men’s wear-tailored jackets, demonstrating her versatility.

For the fashion film, she once again tapped her friend Jacopo Godani, who choreographed three people — outside this time — in Tuscany’s fields, with grass’ movement in mind.

In the video’s credits, Crociani’s non-fungible token, or NFT, project is teased in a line explaining that one dress in the film is linked to the virtual art. The project — billed to be the first that’s NFT-related for a couture house — is built around five unique NFTs that will be available based on one dress.

Crociani always seeks to stretch boundaries and is fascinated by how what’s transmitted by NFTs become virtually immortal, and that creation in the virtual realm can reduce consumption in the physical world.

The designer said she hopes the NFTs will start a dialog about how new technologies can be environmentally friendly.
