Aldi & Lidl share updated safety rules as lockdown eases – ‘be respectful’
Supermarkets have regularly updated customers throughout the pandemic on various different safety rules and measures. As lockdown restrictions ease further in the UK, retailers including Aldi and Lidl have updated shoppers on new guidance.
In a message to customers, discount supermarket Aldi said that safety continues to be their number one priority.
The letter read: “From July 19, social distancing limits have been removed in England and the wearing of a face covering in public or crowded places is a personal choice.
“To ensure the safety of you and our colleagues, we ask that you continue to wear a face covering if you can.
“Our hand sanitiser and leaning stations remain in stores to use.”

Shoppers in Wales are also required to continue wearing face coverings.
Aldi said: “From July 17, Wales remains at Alert Level One, meaning you are still required to wear a face covering and social distance at two metres in our stores.
“Our hand sanitiser and cleaning stations remain in stores to use.”
The supermarket also advises customers to shop when it is quieter.
The retailer said: “Sometimes the best times to shop are the quietest times. Our handy chart shows our busiest times are between 11am and 3pm.”
Quieter times tend to be in the morning between 8am and 11am and then again before closing between 7pm and 10pm.
Hand sanitiser and cleaning stations remain available to use in every UK store.
Lidl said: “Although no longer legally required in England, the Government expects and recommends that people wear face coverings in crowded areas and we will have signage in place at store entrances reminding our customers of this.
“Wearing a face covering in our stores is mandatory in Scotland and Wales in line with Government regulations, to help keep everyone safe.”
For those who have forgotten their mask, there will be face coverings available at the store entrance which can then be purchased at the till when customers complete their shop.
Lidl added: “Within England, we will enable colleagues to individually decide if they prefer to continue wearing a face covering or not and will continue to make these available for our colleagues.
“Within Scotland and Wales, we continue to provide face coverings to our colleagues who will wear these when working on the shop floor, and where necessary when working behind a screen.”
The discount supermarket also still has trolley cleaning stations in place as well as asking customers to “be respectful” of other customers who may continue to observe social distancing.
