Can I visit my second home?

Britain will enter a tiered restriction system after the coronavirus lockdown is lifted on December 2. In total more than 34.1 million people have moved into a higher tier, equating to 61 percent of the English population. Each tier now has a uniform set of rules which must be followed in all areas, rather than specific rules for individual locations. But can you visit your second home under the new rules?

The Government has now set out which tier each area of England will go into next week.

The current lockdown will end in England on December 2, with the tiered restrictions coming into force from 12.01am that day.

The vast majority (55m) of English residents will be placed in high and very high tiers.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is now facing Tory rebellion after the Government unveiled the new tier system, with MPs being described as being in “open revolt”.

Mr Johnson defended the measures, saying they were necessary to prevent a “New Year national lockdown”.

If you live in a Tier 1 area and you travel to an area in a higher tier, you should comply with the rules for that higher tier.

You should avoid travel to or overnight stays in Tier 3 areas other than where necessary such as for work, education or medical treatment.

You can travel through a Tier 3 area as part of a longer journey.

When the new tier rules come into effect, those in Tier 1 areas must abide by the Rule of Six, both indoors and outside.
