Dog death warning as bulldog dies from heatstroke and brain damage amid heatwave

Laura Kyle’s dog Betty the French bulldog died after a walk on a hot day. Betty appeared fine during the walk, but when she arrived home her condition deteriorated.

While Laura left water for Betty, she found her limp later in the afternoon.

Vets told Laura her dog had suffered heatstroke and subsequent brain damage and the pet was later put to sleep.

Laura told the Daily Record: “There were no warning signs at all, she jumped out of the car and she was completely fine when I brought them back home.

“I had gone out and when I came back, I found her lying limp so I immediately put a wet towel around her.

If your dog is showing these signs taken them into a cool area and give them the water to drink.

Give them a cool wet towel to lie on and call your vet.

Do not walk your dog in the heat of the day and make sure they always have water and a cool place to lie.

Never leave your dog in a car, even with the windows down and even for a few minutes.

Don’t travel with your dog in the car when it is very hot.

GB News host Kirsty Gallagher spoke out on leaving pets in hot weather.

She said: “Can I just say and we will be talking about this more on Breakfast tomorrow is, look after your animals in this heat.

“Do not leave your dog or pets in cars, I know you might think a little bit of a window.

“Also, there’s a lot of dog-napping going on,” the Great British Breakfast host continued.

“I have to say that because I get very wound up if I see a dog left in a car or on a walk panting.”
