Duchess of Cornwall steals spotlight as she celebrates Wales with flamboyant red hat

The Queen was joined by Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, at the sixth ceremonial opening of the Senedd in Cardiff. Camilla looked radiant in a red dress and coat and a remarkable hat, the colour of which resembled the flag of Wales. As her husband, Prince Charles, is the Prince of Wales, this was a touching nod to the country to pay respect to the people there.

The blonde royal wore her hair in her trademark bob style and fringe and added minimal makeup to highlight her features.

The Duchess also wore her black kitten heel shoes and carried a black bag.

The Queen also looked very stylish in a Stewart Parvin outfit which consisted of a rose A-line coat, and a silk dress decorated with autumnal florals in grey, fuchsia, and olive.

She also wore a matching hat by Rachel Trevor-Morgan and the Welsh Daffodil brooch as a mark of respect.

As the Queen arrived at the Welsh Parliament, the Welsh National Anthem and British National Anthem were both played, and a royal salute was given.

The Guard of Honour was in position in front of the Senedd.

The Queen was met by the First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, and the Llywydd of the Senedd.

The Queen’s arrival was overshadowed, however, by a group calling for the independence of Wales.

Richard Palmer, the Royal Correspondent for the Daily Express, tweeted: “The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall arrive moments before the Queen to attend the opening of the Senedd in Cardiff.”

The Queen said in her speech: ‘I have spoken before about how recent times have, in many ways, brought us closer together.

“We all owe a debt of gratitude to those who have risen so magnificently to the challenges of the last 18 months – from key workers to volunteers, who have done so much to serve their communities.

“They are shining examples of the spirit for which the Welsh people are so renowned, a spirit which I have personally encountered so many times.

“It is a source of pleasure that both The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, together with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have had homes in Wales, and experienced its very special sense of community.”
