Ernest W. Baker Men’s Spring 2022
Ernest W. Baker’s brand identity now defined, Reid Baker and Ines Amorim were keen to add more playful touches to their wistful, cinematic fashion universe. The young label once again succeeded in finding the balance between offering a distinctive, almost surreal ambiance and delivering on commercial realism.
A double-breasted, peak-lapel jacket and flared pants were worked in a blurry rose jacquard fabric in red and black, intended to evoke the notion of seeing the image through a rain-blurred screen. The floral motif — a house emblem seen in many of its designs — similarly featured on the denim pieces in the collection, as a chunky crochet cardigan, or emblazoned onto a leather shopper.
Their use of pops of purple was intended to evoke the mood of late adolescence, not quite adulthood in their melancholic coming-of-age story, they said, a mood that was also evoked with items like a varsity jacket in black-and-white gingham.
The moody vintage theme was twisted in what Baker described as “grandpa athleisure,” with a rose jacquard vest done in a technical fabric or a shell suit worked in super-soft leather and suede for a luxurious touch of nostalgia.
