Fans Will Flip Out When They Hear About the Major ‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 Casting Changes
Yellowstone fans, it’s time you pay attention. Fans already know that the Paramount Network show got renewed for a fifth season earlier this year. Now, viewers are eagerly awaiting details on what they can expect … or rather, who they can expect to return to the runaway hit.
Well, lucky for us, the show decided to give a little teaser about the cast, and it’s about to cause a bit of a frenzy. While fan favorites like Kevin Costner, Gil Birmingham, Luke Grimes, and Kelly Reilly are almost guaranteed to return, a few new faces are being added to season 5.
In a recent report from Deadline, the show announced quite a few shake-ups as to who will be onscreen alongside the Dutton family this season. Let’s start with recurring actors Mo Brings Plenty (a.k.a. Mo) and Wendy Moniz (a.k.a. Governor Lynelle Perry), who will now join the cast as regulars for the fifth season. Since they’ve been on the Paramount Network series from the start, we say it’s about time they get a full-time spot!

Here’s where things get even more interesting. In addition to Mo and Wendy becoming series regulars, four new actors will debut as recurring characters at some point throughout the fifth season. Let’s meet them now:
- Kai Caster as Rowdy, a young cowboy
- Lainey Wilson as Abby, a musician (Fun fact: She’s a country singer by trade)
- Lilli Kay as Clara Brewer, a new assistant for the Dutton family
- Dawn Olivieri as Sarah Atwood, a confident businesswoman looking to shake things up in Montana (If she sounds familiar, she’s also been featured on 1883)

Don’t think that’s all the good news about the Taylor Sheridan-run series, though. In addition to four new recurring actors, some familiar faces will be joining them. Kylie Rogers (Young Beth Dutton) and Kyle Red Silverstein (Young Rip Wheeler) will once again join the ranching cast for the first time since 2020, alongside Jacki Weaver (Caroline Warner), who made her first appearance in the fourth season.
But here’s the best news: Josh Lucas will be on the show for the first time since 2019, playing a young John Dutton. How more perfect can this be, since he’s been busy teasing a potential return since he last left?
“@yellowstone many people have and are working very hard to make this happen for me.” he wrote on Instagram about officially coming back to Yellowstone. “I am deeply grateful. If you haven’t seen @yellowstone I can assure it’s amazing storytelling. To prep I watched all 40 episodes in the last week and I had to force my self to go to bed many nights as I truly got hooked.”
Fans were definitely shocked by this news. “Wow! Awesome! ❤️ Definitely love Yellowstone! ❤️,” one fan commented. “So looking forward to seeing you on the show this next season!!!! Was pleasantly surprised to see you as young John Dutton, looking forward to more!” another replied.
As a reminder, the new season premieres on November 13. While we still have a ways to go before new episodes air, exciting cast updates like these definitely help!
