So how does one go about getting a covid test for travel? Firstly, jet-setters won’t be able to use the NHS service.

“COVID-19 testing for the purposes of international travel is not available on the NHS,” cautioned the health service in its travel advice.

Instead, travellers will have to turn to the private sector and pay for a test. Prices for private tests generally range between £100 and £150.

However, the NHS warned: “Private testing processes and accuracy of results may vary. This should be discussed with the test provider before payment.”

“There are multiple test providers in the UK, but not all of them can supply the relevant paperwork for travel to certain destinations,” Alex Templeton, CEO of healthcare and testing provider Qured, told Express.co.uk.

“Which type of test you pick will depend on requirements for your specific journey and how urgently you need your results.”

Michael Asher, Chairman & CEO at Better2Know Ltd, added: “Be sure the Laboratory doing the testing is UKAS certified, and that your Fit to Fly certificate will be accepted by your airline.”
