Julie de Libran Spring 2023 Couture Collection

Julie de Libran held a presentation today in her Paris flat, starring her many chic friends, who she cast as the collection’s muses. Mathilde Favier, Alexia Niedzielski, and Tina Leung, just to name a few, swirled around de Libran’s smartly furnished space swathed in her feminine couture numbers, looking as if they had just grabbed the dresses from their own closets—et voilà, they were ready for a décontracté lunch chez Julie.

De Libran remains commited to upcycling, to minimize waste and embrace responsible consumption. All the beautiful fabrics she used were from Lyonnaise mills. They come in short supply, so her collection mostly consists of unique pieces that cannot be replicated, which makes them even more precious. This season she went for lots of sparkle and sequins because she was feeling festive. “The color of the season is shine,” she said, surrounded by friends who were chatting around the healthy but rather succulent buffet.

The feel of the collection was young, sexy, and chic in the elusive Parisian way de Libran does so well. Sequins in a palette of quartz pink, emerald green, and sapphire blue were lavished on slinky slip dresses and miniskirts, worn under matching loose cardis. It was de Libran’s take on the twinset, she explained, and it made for a ravishing option for an easy yet sensual party look. A cape dress with a draped movement at the back was also a standout, while a pouf minidress in black taffeta showed the designer’s mastery of soft, feminine construction.

De Libran is partial to lightness; today she had dresses suspended at eye level as an installation among lamps and bookcases, “to highlight their airy feel,” she explained. She was herself the picture of breezy effortlessness, mingling with ease among her guests. Despite her chic muses, she’s definitely the best ambassador for her creations.
