Kate Middleton wears Princess Diana’s earrings with sweet nod to Scotland

Kate Middleton, 38, has a vast jewellery collection including rings, bracelets and necklaces. The Duchess of Cambridge will also add a brooch to her outfit on special occasions. Yesterday, when the royal couple visited Scotland on their second day of their royal tour, Kate wore her sapphire earrings which previously belonged to Princess Diana.

The expert said: “It is difficult to estimate the value without closer inspection but on the assumption the sapphires are of the same source, Sri Lanka (still referred to as Ceylon in the trade), they could be worth as much as £35,000.”

Kate also wore the same pair of earrings in Scotland last year on a visit to Dundee.

The Duchess will often sport these sentimental pieces of jewellery on special occasions, and Princess Diana often favoured for her sapphire earrings when she attended her own royal engagements.

Her engagement ring from Prince William is also a sapphire, another piece of Lady Di’s jewellery collection.

“In my opinion this engagement ring is priceless; not only because of what it means to the Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, but it also carries the legacy of Princess Diana, a woman who meant so much to many people throughout our nation, not to mention her sons and family.”

If the expert had to put a price tag on the engagement ring, she would value it to be worth around £400,000.

Roseanna added: “It is said that the inspiration for Kate Middleton’s and formerly, the late Princess Diana’s engagement ring, came from a brooch the Queen owns and Prince Charles always found beautiful – he is said to have seen the ring at House of Garrard and as it reminded him of this brooch he was drawn to it immediately.

“The brooch was originally a gift from Prince Albert to Queen Victoria who wore it on their wedding day and the main sapphire is estimated at 20-30 carats.

“It is worth upwards of £3mil. especially with its heritage.
