Marks & Spencer shoppers to beware of £500 voucher scam on Facebook - urgent warning

Marks & Spencer customers have been targeted as part of a scam posted on Facebook. Those who shop with the retailer should beware of offers online.
Marks & Spencer shoppers were offered free items worth £40 in a fraudulent Facebook post, The Grocer reported.
The scam was posted on the “M&S Shop” Facebook group, which now appears to have been taken down.
The group had gathered more than 30,000 followers when the post was uploaded.
It offered customers a free gift of essential food items if they shared a post then gave their personal details.
DON’T MISS
The post read: “Hello everyone, times are tough right now and [that’s] why we have decided to do something about it!
“Everyone who has shared then commented on this by January 21st will receive a free basket of essential goods worth £40 (sent Next Day Delivery).”
Some shoppers appeared to fall for the scam, as The Grocer reported they replied to thank Marks & Spencer for their kindness.
The post also claimed they would give vouchers with £500 to 15 people who took part.
Marks & Spencer responded to customers who flagged the page and confirmed it was aware of the issue and would try to get the page taken down as soon as possible, The Grocer stated.
It seems the page has now been removed but shoppers should watch out for similar scams on social media.
Marks & Spencer offers advice for those who believe they have been scammed and customers are encouraged to report anything suspicious.
The M&S website states: “If you think you’ve been the victim of a scam, report it to us as soon as soon as possible by calling 0345 900 0900. You should also report it to Action Fraud.”
