Turning to debt, Martin shared his tips and tricks for those who might be owing money to their provider.

He said: “If you find yourself substantially in debt, then try and up your direct debit pretty quickly because otherwise they’ll stop you switching and you could have to pay a big lump sum in the future.

“It’s worth noting if you have switched then they have to give you the credit you’re due at that point and if they haven’t, chase them for it, even if it was two years ago, try and get your credit back.”
