Meanwhile, the average time in the North East is 111 days.

Both of these regions have a significantly shorter time than for those buying houses in the East Midlands and East of England, where the median is 166 days and 157 days respectively.

While the housing market is remaining open in England during the upcoming lockdown, the Chancellor has faced calls to extend the Stamp Duty holiday, in light of the stringent measures.

David Hannah, Founder of Stamp Duty advisory practice, Cornerstone Tax, commented: “With the second national lockdown beginning on Thursday, it is critical that the government reviews this stamp duty holiday, to allow the conveyancing, surveying, mortgage and search services who are already overwhelmed, to continue supporting homebuyers despite further delays that are likely to be fuelled by a second lockdown.
