Most stylish & on-trend engagement ring belongs to royal with ‘individuality’ & ‘flair’

Engagement rings are extremely popular but, for indecisive brides-to-be, it can be difficult to know which cut and design to go for. An expert has shared the most on-trend engagement ring style of the moment – and which member of the royal family wears a ring that embodies this style.

“Both royal rings showcase the oval-cut and coloured gemstone, combining a classic cut with a contemporary twist, two major trends which we expect to see in 2022.

“Kate’s highly reported engagement ring, which once belonged to the late Princess Diana, is a 12-carat oval-cut blue sapphire surrounded by fourteen solitaire diamonds with a setting made from 18K white gold.

““Not dissimilar in style, Eugenie’s engagement ring features a very rare 3-carat oval-cut peach padparadscha sapphire, surrounded by diamonds, echoing her mother, Sarah Ferguson’s ruby halo engagement ring.”

The oval-cut engagement ring is rising in popularity due to both royal and celebrity influence, according to Claire.

She said: “The resurgence of the oval shape has been influenced by A-list celebrities in recent years such as Blake Lively, Scarlett Johansson, and with Kourtney Kardashian’s stunning 12-carat oval-cut diamond engagement ring breaking the internet recently, we can certainly expect to see more oval-cut rings next year.

“Another trend we expect to continue to take off in 2022 is the preference of a coloured gemstone over a colourless diamond.

“Instead of competing for carats, millennial couples are favouring uniquely coloured gemstones, such as emeralds and pink sapphires.

“Not only can a coloured gemstone be a more affordable and ethical choice than a diamond, but it allows for more individuality, which is a top priority for this generation.”

But what does the choice of ring say about the person wearing it?

Claire explained that there is both meaning and symbolism behind the design of a ring, saying: “The modern symbolism of an oval-shaped ring is of family and harmony, which along with the versatility of the shape makes it the ideal cut for a modern couple.

“The contemporary cut of the oval shape still retains all of the brilliant facets that you would get with a round cut, but allows flexibility with the proportions to elongate and slim the fingers with a longer profile, proving to be a very flattering style.

“Choosing this classic style as an engagement ring shows that the wearer keeps with tradition, but likes to mix it up with individualism and flair.

“This individuality can also be shown with the use of accent diamonds to really make this classic cut unique.”

As for an engagement ring featuring a coloured gemstone, this is rooted in a belief that began in the Roman era, where people believed that the ring finger on the left hand has a vein which runs directly to the heart.

Claire continued: “Therefore, by choosing certain coloured gemstones they believed you were inviting different energies into your life.

“For example, a blue sapphire is said to symbolise power, strength and kindness – a fitting statement for Princess Diana and the Duchess of Cambridge.”
