PH5 Resort 2022 Collection

Reemergence and lockdown have served as the jumping off point for many resort 2022 collections, but PH5’s Wei Lin and Zoe Champion crafted a creative little narrative around theirs. “We came up with a story of ‘what if our knitting machines were bored during COVID and wanted to make some crafts?’” Champion says. The cutesy premise doesn’t appear too obvious when looking at the clothes. PH5 has always embraced the technical side of making slinky, form-fitting knits, and the motifs inspired by this tale fit right in with that identity.

The pattern of the season is a dot gradient, in pink, green, and blue. As each PH5 piece has to be coded into a computer before it’s created by a machine, the pattern is a riff on that. It works well with the label’s signature, asymmetrical wave hem thanks to their shared futurism, more so than the gingham used in previous seasons. Whimsical touches elevate otherwise familiar silhouettes, like polo shirts, cardigans, and pleated midi skirts. A beige skirt and top set turns to pink when exposed to UV light. Some of the cardigan’s plackets are wavy, and a polo shirt features a scalloped collar.

The most exciting development for PH5 is that this season is their first made with 100% sustainably-sourced yarns, including recycled viscose and EcoVero viscose. They also recently released their first sustainability report, measured against Business of Fashion’s Sustainability Index, which documents their yarn vendors, outlines their emissions, and sets new goals and targets. “This is where we see ourselves: a tasteful fashion label that’s also very sustainably-focused,” Lin says. Nothing more timely or forward-looking than that.
