Queen Elizabeth gives nod to Germany wearing special emerald brooch to meet Angela Merkel

Queen Elizabeth II welcomed Angela Merkel to Windsor Castle for an audience today. The women were spotted chatting at the monarch’s Berkshire residence.

The monarch appeared to complete her look wearing a pair of nude coloured tights.

She also dressed up the ensemble with pieces from her enviable jewellery collection.

Queen Elizabeth II is rarely seen without a brooch and is thought to have a collection of nearly 100 brooches.

The monarch has been known to send messages with the pieces that she chooses to wear.

This is something she is thought to have done today while meeting the Chancellor of Germany.

The 95-year-old sported the Cambridge Emerald Cluster Brooch without the usual pendant.

The jewel has special significance as it was won by Princess Augusta, Duchess of Cambridge in a charity lottery in Germany.

This happened in the early 19th century and the jewel has stayed within the Royal Family.

Queen Elizabeth II also wore her favourite three strand pearl necklace.

The monarch is rarely seen without the classic jewel and it is thought to be part of her official royal “uniform” when at engagements.

She matched it with another one of her go-to jewels, a pair of stud pearl earrings.

The Queen wore a simple make-up look pairing a slick of blusher with a dark pink lipstick.

She finished the look wearing her favourite closed toe black pumps.

Queen Elizabeth II has worn the same black shoes for 50 years and they are handmade by Anello & Davide of Kensington.

Angela Merkle opted for a blue button up coat for the meeting.

She wore it with a pair of loose fitting navy trousers.
