Rosetta Getty Resort 2022 Collection

Swimwear is a growing trend in the resort collections, a statement that might sound pretty basic considering it’s, you know, resort, a season premised on holiday vacations. But most designers are showing their bikinis and maillots as “real clothes” with blazers and full skirts, no pool necessary. As we enter an era of sexier, skimpier, less-inhibited fashion designers seem drawn to the comfortable, yet sensual (and conveniently sweat-proof) feel of a swimsuit.

For Rosetta Getty, swim is actually beginning to inspire her ready-to-wear. A twisted cut-out maillot from prior seasons was so successful she reworked it as a long-sleeved jersey crop top; in the lookbook, it’s shown with wide-leg khakis as a “bra” under an oversized jacket. A body-skimming jersey gown came with the maillot’s same ruched bodice, halter straps, and deep cut-outs at the ribcage, and Getty pointed out how it could be dressed up for a gala or toned-down with flat sandals. It’s pictured next to another hardworking gown, an ivory sequined number that’s cut like a T-shirt and lined with soft twill so it feels like one, too.

Getty’s lookbook was accompanied by The Party, a short story by Natasha Stagg and the latest in the designer’s seasonal artist collaborations. The tale’s protagonist, Aurelia, throws a bash in a Brooklyn townhouse and cycles through every look in the collection, from her “errands-running outfit” of taupe and cream knits to the maillot-inspired dress for the main event. Women re-emerging for their own post-pandemic holiday parties will find plenty of options come November, from Getty’s new three-piece suit—finished with extra-large gold buttons for a touch of flash—to the leather “basketball shorts” that ended just above the knee. Every look was finished with her best-selling clogs, remade in fluffy ivory, black, and cognac shearling; for those of us entertaining at home, they’d be an ideal slipper upgrade.
