Strictly: Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse

Judi said: “Finally this was Bill’s night to showcase the passion and sexuality that has been missing from his previous routines.
“With his emphatically polite and often slightly distant body language with Oti his Argentine Tango as The Phantom should have been the moment he unleashed the Giovanni within and gave us a glimpse of some good old-fashioned, masterful sensuality.
“But although Bill was digging deep it was clear from his first walk-out that it was never going to happen.”
Judi suggested the body language between the two could show a distance.
DON’T MISS
However, she also explained Bill appeared determined to win while on the show tonight.
She added: “The still from last week’s dance-off reminded us of just how determined Bill is to win this show. Waiting for final feed-back he stood with eyes raised upward and his mouth pulled into a snarl with his teeth gritted.
“If he could have bottled that sense of dominance and brought it into the Tango tonight he could have scored straight tens.
“However, his body posture announced he was going to miss the look of menace of The Phantom, which is all about the upper torso and shoulders and the arms and gesticulations of a hypnotic magician.
“There was some quivering and juddering thanks to mis-placed body weight and his last dramatic pose looked more like a man with appendicitis.”
She explained dance partner Oti was on hand to guide Bill through the performance.
Judi said: “Oti seemed to be willing Bill on so hard that she switched roles with him, posing with her chin held high and with the kind of assured gestures that were more ‘Phantom’ than innocent victim.”
While in the competition, Bill and Oti have become fan favourites.
Commenting on their performance, Judi said Bill may have attracted attention by breaking stereotypes.
“Bill has brought a new element to the very veteran show that is Strictly, breaking through stereotypes to go from the one we should have been laughing at to the one who was putting in such great performances that he was a very likely winner,” Judi added.
“A surprise release of sexuality out there in the Tango would probably have ensured he won that Glitterball trophy.
“Instead the field is wide open after his less masterly performance tonight.”
