Supermarket shopping rules in Tier 1, 2, and 3 - Aldi, ASDA, Tesco and Sainsbury's

Many have been left confused by the UK’s new tier system. Locations in England have been split into three tiers, from medium risk to very high risk. How will what tier you are in affect supermarkets?

However, in Tier 2 shoppers can meet at outdoor shopping spaces, ie markets.

Supermarkets are urging just one person from each household to shop at one time, if possible.

It is essential to wear masks in the supermarket and to stay two metres from other shoppers.

Supermarkets are also urging Britons to shop online where possible.

What rules do individual supermarkets have in place?

Tesco

Tesco has a traffic light system in place in large stores. This is to manage distacing within the store.

It asks those who have left their masks at home to buy them at the front of the stores.

Tesco said: “We have packs available to buy at the front of our stores, which you can open immediately and pay for with your shopping later. As a reminder, the police can issue fines for not wearing a face covering, unless you’re exempt.”

It asks people to pay with contact payment where possible.
