Tesco, Asda, M&S: Latest shopping rules and supermarket advice ahead of Christmas

An email to customers stated: “As the festive season approaches, it’s always busier for our stores. Please consider shopping a little earlier than you usually would, to avoid the peak festive period.”
Asda
Asda has introduced new technology to help customers skip long queues this Christmas.
After trials earlier this year, it has rolled out a queuing app to around 50 stores.
Customers can log into the app and virtually secure their place in the queue.
When it is their time to enter the store, shoppers will be sent a text to let them know.
DON’T MISS
Asda customers can also get their Christmas essentials delivered by choosing a festive delivery slot.
While these are limited, the retailer encouraged Britons to consider Click and Collect options if they want to avoid entering stores.
Sainsbury’s
The supermarket’s CEO Simon Roberts has shared shopping advice to help keep all customers safe.
A statement said: “We are doing everything we can to keep queues as short as possible – and we really appreciate your help with this. We are limiting the number of people in our shops at any one time, so please help us to help you by shopping alone where at all possible.
“By shopping on your own, we can help more people to get in and out of our stores much more quickly – which means less time queuing for everyone. Of course, we understand that some people need support with their shopping and that single parents will need to bring their children.”
Aldi
Like most retailers, Aldi has social distancing measures and safety procedures in stores.
A statement from CEO Giles Hurley explained shelves would remain stocked throughout December and also asked customers to shop alone where possible.
He said: “The majority of our stores are open from 8am to 10pm every day (Sundays 10am to 4pm) and our amazing colleagues are on hand to help you shop safely and find everything you need in store.
“To help with social distancing, customers are encouraged to shop alone, where possible, and adhere to one person per trolley. We will of course allow customers to shop with others, should they have no alternative.
“We are also continuing to increase the availability of our new Click and Collect service, and we have recently announced that over 200 additional stores will be offering this service by Christmas.”
Marks & Spencer
This Christmas, M&S Customers can stay safe with the Mobile Pay Go app, which allows them to shop, scan and pay without the need for visiting a checkout.
It has also introduced ‘Sparks Book and Shop’ where customers can book a time ahead to visit stores securely.
M&S Retail operations and property director Sacha Berendji said: “Our store teams have been incredible throughout this time, and this Christmas season they’re stepping up again to keep everyone safe, and to help keep Christmas special.
“After this year, we know customers want to deliver the magic for their loved ones – from the food they love to the perfect thoughtful gift – so we want to play our part to make shopping easier.
“This Christmas, in addition to our extensive hygiene measures, we’re offering our longest-ever opening hours and important new services like ‘Sparks Book and Shop’, whilst still delivering the festive feeling and inspiration customers are after in our shops.”
