Tesco introduces new ways to shop online and updates opening hours amid Christmas rush

Tesco has begun preparing for the festive period by releasing its Christmas delivery slots as well as its festive food to order range. However with the delivery slots high in demand, the supermarket giant has issued some important advice to its shoppers. There are also new measures implemented into its stores to help customers and staff stay safe.

If customers can’t get their desired slot, they can Click+Collect their orders for just £1.50.

Tesco said that their service tends to have more availability and food can be picked up within a one hour time slot.

Stores are likely to be more busier in the weeks leading up to Christmas and so customers should expect queues when visiting.

To help customers wait outside in the queue, Tesco will be handing out sanitised umbrellas if it is raining.

All Tesco stores across the country were shut on Christmas Day and it is likely to be the case again this year.

In other supermarket news, some stores have decided to extend their festive opening hours to help customers get everything they need for the big day.

Marks and Spencer has announced that it will be keeping around 400 of its Food Halls open until midnight in the lead up to Christmas, giving customers time to shop when its convenient and less quiet.

The midnight closing hours will apply on December 21-23.

Sacha Berendji, M&S’s retail, operations and property director said: “We want our customers to be able to shop with confidence this Christmas, which means supporting social distancing in our stores and minimal queueing outside as the weather gets colder.

“To help with this, we’ll be operating our longest ever opening hours just before Christmas.

“Along with the wider industry, we continue to ask for Sunday trading hours to be extended to help us increase our capacity to serve everyone safely this festive season.”

Discount retailer Aldi has also confirmed that it will be open until 11pm in the majority of its supermarkets.

This is to help customers shop for their festive food when the stores may be quieter.
