The Balearics promise ‘worry free holiday’ with new on-demand PCR in hotels

THE Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, are among the 16 new destinations added to the green list from June 30. The archipelago has celebrated the decision and assured that Britons will be safe from COVID-19 during their long-awaited holiday.

The Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, has announced 16 new destinations have added to the green list. Britons can now travel to these countries restriction-free.

The Balearic Islands, in Spain, have been added to the “green watchlist” meaning they will stay on the list unless there is a spike in COVID-19 cases in the region.

However, the islands are confident they will remain on the restriction-free list as their COVID-19 rate is the lowest in Spain and 43 percent of the archipelago has already been vaccinated.

The Director of the Spanish Tourist Office, Javier Piñanes, said they are “delighted” with the decision.

From the Palma Tourism Board, Pedro Homar, said: “We have continued to work behind the scenes to ensure visitors can have a safe and enjoyable holiday.

“Our Covid numbers are very low. We have extremely sophisticated tourism and health infrastructure and we are reading and waiting to welcome British tourists back with open arms.”

Nacho Gozalbo, commercial director at Palladium Hotel Group Ibiza, explained: “We have implemented a range of stringent health and safety policies, including an on-demand PCR testing service for our guests in Ibiza at a range of our properties.”

Pedro Homar continued: “Businesses have invested heavily in safety protocols to enable visitors to have a worry free holiday.

“There’s no better time for British visitors to visit Mallorca.

“The sun is shining, we have extremely sophisticated tourism and health infrastructure and we are reading and waiting with open arms.”

According to current travel restrictions, it is permitted to go on holiday to green list countries without restrictions.

Britons coming back from green countries don’t need to quarantine although COVID-19 tests on arrival are required.

As opposed to other countries in the EU, Spain is currently welcoming all Britons without restrictions.

Travellers visiting the Balearic Islands this summer don’t need to present a PCR test or quarantine on arrival to Spain.

Other countries added to the green list:

Antigua and Barbuda

Balearic Islands

British Antarctic Territory

British Indian Ocean Territory

British Virgin Islands

Cayman Islands

Pitcairn Islands

Turks and Caicos Islands
