The best games to play over Zoom

The coronavirus crisis is likely to keep families, friends and loved ones around the world apart this Christmas. Instead, virtual games and chats will have to suffice for many. But for those who are choosing to celebrate the festive period virtually – what are the best games to play over Zoom?
Trivia
One of the most popular games to play virtually this years has been trivia quizzes.
You can play these easily with one person acting as the quizmaster or each participant taking responsibility for one quiz round.
Have each person either send their answers in the Zoom chat at the same time or trust them not to cheat and share the answers aloud at the end of each round.
Express.co.uk has compiled a number of themed quiz questions which you can use including a Christmas quiz, a Geography quiz or a general knowledge quiz.
If you are struggling to find questions, you can also use this random trivia question generator tool here.

Pictionary
Pictionary is a classic party game which is beloved by many.
Pictionary can be easily adapted to play over Zoom – especially with Zoom’s whiteboard feature.
To use Zoom’s whiteboard, you will want to click the share button located in your meeting toolbar, select the whiteboard and click share.
Then you can use the annotation tools to create your drawing.
If you have the Pictionary board game you can use the cards in the game or those without the board game, you can use this Pictionary word generator.
The drawer tends to have one minute to draw the object and for their team to guess correctly.
For each correctly guessed item, the team wins a point.
Scattergories
Scattergories is a popular game with word lovers and can be easily adapted for players of all ages.
To play, you can either use the board game, sharing the topics for each or use this free game generator here.
The rules for Scattergories are simple: choose a set number of categories such as items in this room, girls name, TV show or things you find in the fridge.
Once you have the categories, you must choose one letter – either rolling the special alphabet dice from Scattergories or using the random letter generator tool here.
You must then set a timer for one minute per every five categories and each player must write down answers beginning with the chosen letter.
The more unique your answer is compared to others, the more points you can receive.

Online Bingo
Bingo is a hugely popular game across the UK and is easy to undertake over Zoom.
Each player should print out the same style of bingo cards, making sure they have different numbers.
Then one person must be designated as the caller.
You can then proceed in one of two ways, either writing down all the numbers on cards, shuffling them and then drawing them one at a time.
Or you can use an online bingo option which enables multiple people to join such as Facebook Instant Games’ bingo option in Messenger or GamePoint Bingo from Youda Games.
