The Tiniest Mall of Archival Abercrombie & Fitch Is Now Open

The trick to Allen’s curation is his high-low mentality, an ethos that he culls from those quarterlies of the late ’90s and early ’00s. “They were using Tom Ford [Gucci] blazers in them,” says Allen. In one instance, Allen styled a model in a gilded brocade Gianfranco Ferrè jacket from 1999—fit for a princely bro!—over a vintage military ribbed tank top and pair of baggy cargos. Other pieces that Allen will offer at his appointment-only archive are from Calvin Klein, Anna Sui, Prada, and Tom Ford’s time at Gucci.

Despite its name, the Society Archive is growing to be more than simply an archive. Allen will also be introducing his own capsule collection, which culls inspiration from the hard-to-find garments of those good old mall years. There will be a skirt crafted out of archival Anna Sui cotton in a floral print dubbed the Bear Mountain skirt. There is also a button-up in rose and oxford blue with French cuffs, a cotton floral belt inspired by board-short waistbands, and Allen’s take on military cargo pants. “I’m always looking to buy and wear these pieces,” he says. “So I want to make them available each season while updating colorways and fabrications with each capsule.” In other words, the mall has never looked so good.
