You might be feeling a bit blue since American Idol‘s season finale on Sunday marked the end of season 4 on ABC (19th season overall). But fear not, Idol fans: the show has been officially renewed for another season.
Prior to this year’s season finale — which resulted in Chayce Beckham being crowned the champion — ABC announced that the search for the next big superstar will continue in 2022. That said, Deadline reports that show runner Trish Kinane is stepping down from her position and executive producer Megan Michaels Wolflick will take her place.

Right now, it’s too soon to say when American Idol season 5 will premiere on ABC. But based on the premiere date of the last two seasons, we’d say there’s a good chance the competition show will come out sometime in mid-February of 2022. Of course, when we have a set date confirmed we will be sure to share it.

More than likely, judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry will be back for the fifth season of American Idol.
While there hasn’t been an official announcement that the three judges have signed contracts for the next season, fans need not worry just yet. Last year, an announcement broke in August that the three had renewed their contracts, so we’re thinking more concrete info from the network will come our way later on this summer.

Believe it or not, producers are already in search of the next American Idol. On the American Idol audition website, Idol hopefuls are being asked to sign up for in-person virtual “Idol Across America” audition updates or to submit their online video auditions. Those who prefer to audition virtually will receive more info in the upcoming weeks about dates and other important information.
Remember, to be eligible for American Idol, you “must be born on or between June 2, 1992 and September 15, 2006.”
