‘Today’ Star Hoda Kotb Got Emotional Seeing Jenna Bush Hager’s Thrilling Skydiving Jump

Jenna Bush Hager is feeling a little closer to her late grandfather, former President George H.W. Bush, after her latest adventure.

Last Thursday, the Today coanchor celebrated what would have been his 97th birthday by skydiving, a passion George discovered while serving as a fighter pilot for the U.S. Navy in World War II. Jenna was accompanied by the Golden Knights, the same U.S. Army parachute team that helped the 41st president leap several times throughout his life.

While Jenna prepared to jump from 10,000 feet in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, fellow Today cohosts Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, Craig Melvin and Carson Daly watched from NBC’s Studio-1A in New York City. As she soared through the blue skies, the Today show cast heard Jenna yelling out Hoda’s name.

“Is she screaming your name?” Craig asked while Hoda, Carson, Al and Savannah giggled in the background. When Jenna’s parachute finally released, she breathed a sigh of relief. “I did it!” she said. “Oh my gosh, here we are.” The Today show crew immediately began cheering her on for her courageous effort. Hoda in particular got super emotional watching Jenna.

“It feels like floating, but it’s one of the most exhilarating, terrifying moments of your life,” Jenna explained. “It’s peaceful and beautiful … I feel close to all the people I’ve been missing … I would do it again a thousand times.”

After fans saw Jenna’s powerful stunt, many flooded her Instagram comments section with heartwarming messages. Among the congratulations and “?” emojis, folks shared how emotional they felt watching her celebrate her grandfather’s life.

“This was amazing and incredibly sweet. Had me in tears!” one person wrote. “What an awesome way to honor and remember your gampy. I cried tears of joy for you! ❤️,” another added. “Your grandpa is very proud ??,” a different person said. “Gampy was looking down with pride @jennabhager. What a wonderful tribute to him Jenna!” a follower commented.

While this wasn’t Jenna’s first time skydiving — she did her first jump when she was 18 — we have no doubt this jump will forever hold a special place in her heart.
