Traffic light update: Will Turkey move to the amber list? Expert predicts ‘very bad news’

The new traffic light travel review is expected to happen later this week, on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. With many hopeful holidaymakers eagerly awaiting news on whether or not Turkey could change to amber or even green, experts have begun to make their predictions.

What is the situation currently like in Turkey?

According to the European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC), as of August 19, there were 332,761 confirmed cases of Covid during the previous 14-day reporting period.

The country recorded 53,005 fatalities as a result.

Turkey is reported to have administered at least 88,443,350 doses of Covid vaccines so far, according to Reuters data.

Assuming every person needs two doses, that’s enough to have vaccinated about 53 percent of the country’s population.

Travellers must take a pre-departure Covid test before flying to England, and then will take a further test on days two and eight of their quarantine.

The cost of this stay, and the testing throughout, are at the expense of the traveller.

Following the latest traffic light update on August 4, the cost of a hotel stay rose to £2,285 for one adult in one room.

It costs £1,430 for an additional adult or child over the age of 11.

The rate for an accompanying child aged between five years old and 11 is £325.

Turkey also has rules in place for those travelling from the UK.

All arrivals into Turkey, except Turkish citizens or residence permit holders, must complete an online form within 72 hours of travel.

Passengers arriving from the UK must show a negative PCR test taken within the 72 hours prior to arriving in Turkey.

All arrivals into Turkey will be subject to a medical evaluation for symptoms of coronavirus, including temperature checks.

Arrivals may also be subject to random PCR testing on arrival.
