When is Christmas Jumper day 2020?

The tradition of wearing Christmas Jumpers in December can be traced back to 19th century Scandinavia and Iceland. People made this festive knitwear by hand in order to keep warm as the temperatures dropped. Christmas jumpers were made popular as a winter wardrobe staple by affluent skiers in the early 1900s. In the UK, we celebrate Christmas Jumper day once a year and participants donate money to a special cause- Save the Children. When is Christmas Jumper day 2020?

What is Christmas Jumper Day?

Christmas Jumper Day is a nation-wide event that raises money for the Save the Children charity.

The event was launched in 2012, with people across the UK and Ireland encouraged to “make the world better with a sweater”.

Everyone who wears a Christmas jumper on this day should donate at least £1 to the charity.

Last year four million people got involved, so at least four million pounds were raised.

Who can take part in Christmas Jumper Day?

The more people that get involved in Christmas jumper day, the better.

Anyone can take part in the festive occasion- even your pets!

Many schools and workplaces organise a fundraiser on the day, but you can wear a jumper and donate without belonging to a wider group.

When is Christmas Jumper day 2020?

Christmas Jumper day is on a specific Friday in December every year.

It was launched on Friday, December 14, but this year it will be on Friday, December 11.

That gives you enough time to let your friends and family know and sign up for the event.

How will the money help?

Save the Children has been improving the lives of children across the world since 1919.

The charity betters children’s education, health care, and economic opportunities.

It also provides emergency aid in natural disasters, war and other conflicts.

During the pandemic, Save the Children has provided help to children with parents who are out of work or have had wages cuts.

These children have received supermarket vouchers, educational learning packs, and other essentials.

Just £2 could pay for hand sanitiser to help keep children in need safe from the virus, or £6 could buy a face shield for healthcare workers in Yemen.

Just £20 could buy a back-to-school kit for a child in Indonesia, or £60 could pay for toys and books for struggling families in the UK.

If 50 people gave £2, that’s enough to buy a first aid kit for a health worker in Somalia.
