Kevin De Bruyne hailed as ‘unbelievable’ as Belgium reach Euro 2020 knockout stages

Belgium fell behind to a second-minute Yussuf Poulsen strike as the Parken Stadium in the Danish capital exploded with joy.

The players then stopped play after 10 minutes to applaud for a minute in tribute to Christian Eriksen before play resumed.

And, after a patchy first-half display, Belgium sprung into life in the second half, with Manchester City ace Kevin De Bruyne at the heart of the Red Devils’ best moves.

De Bruyne had been rested for the first half of the match by Belgium boss Roberto Martinez.

But, with the team trailing at the break, he introduced the City playmaker at the start of the second half, and his creative input had an instant impact.

Belgium equalised nine minutes into the second half through Thorgan Hazard, then De Bruyne rounded off a sublime team move as he swept home Belgium’s second with 20 minutes to go.

Half of England and Scotland will be watching the Euro clash tomorrow

“The top players think differently, and the special players have a picture in their head and that is what separates them from the rest.

“We never mentioned Vertonghen in the second half – when you have the quality up the pitch they can keep the ball and you don’t have to rely on the defence.

“You bring your top man on and everyone knows you’ll be okay.

“When you have players like De Bruyne in your team, he will always create and score goals.”
